so I'm participating an icon challenge that [personal profile] colls made for [community profile] snowflake_challenge

1. Comment to this entry saying 'SPACE!' and I will pick 3 of your icons/userpics.
2. Make an entry in your own journal (or just reply if you prefer) and talk about the icons I picked!

Icon challenge! Okay so here are the three icons that they asked for!

Santa Irs

This first icon is the Christmas icon that I've used for the past two or three years. Iris West-Allen is one of my favorite characters in anything, ever, and this picture of her from season one of the flash in that santa hat is just adorable. I can never resist combining Christmas and Iris, my two favorite things :)

Cute Ahsoka

This second icon is my current default icon. It's a picture of the character Ahsoka Tano from Star Wars the Clone Wars! She's another absolute favorite of mine (she's Anakin Skywalker's padawan and has a fantastic arc in the series) and I love her to death. This adorable picture is a drawing of her from a webcomic based on the series called "Contrasts" about her another character, Barriss. http://contrasts-comic.tumblr.com/chapters

Cranky Kamilah

This last icon is a picture of another favorite character of mine, Kamilah Khan, from the comic series Ms. Marvel (which is the first comic I ever read btw)! I absolutely love her unimpressed expression. It's the perfect icon to use when I'm irritated with something and I love getting to see her beautiful face and adorable little hat. Kamilah Khan deserves all my love.

Share a favorite piece of original canon

For this I decided to share descriptions of my two favorite episodes of TV! They're both for different DC TV shows and they both focus on The Flash (or... the flash's grandson) so I thought that they could provide an interesting contrast! These two reviews are littered with spoilers so. Proceed with caution

First we have The Flash Season One Episode Fifteen Out Of Time

This episode focuses on a traumatic worst case scenario for the gang. Joe is captured and his life is threatened by The Weather Wizard. Cisco discovers that Wells is Eobard Thawne and tries to comfort him, and tells him that he was like a son to him before proceeding to put his HAND THROUGH HIS CHEST and killing him. i still hold firm that cisco's acting in this scene is the best in the entire show. Barry reveals to Iris that he's the Flash, kisses her, and runs off to save the city from a crushing TSUNAMI. and then they proceed to run BACK INTO THE PAST accidentally save the day and keep it from repeating but realize exactly the consequences of accidental time travel. like. holy shit.

I didn't start watching the flash until all of season 2 had already aired so I knew that none of this stuff would be permanent, but as a first time viewer watching it live? this would have been a nail bitter. This is probably the episode of anything that I've rewatched the most simply because it's so good.

I actually did a rewrite of my two favorite scenes for this (Cisco dying and Barry revealing himself as the Flash to Iris) for a fic because I just find them both so compelling.

Second we have Young Justice Season Two Episode

So. Young Justice has a lot of my favorite episodes of TV because Young Justice is just an amazing show. It comes back tomorrow and I'm like. Almost not ready to have it wreck me again. Season one is fantastic and character driven, but season two comes with a driving plot that I simply adore and introduces two characters that I would. Die for.

This episode serves as the introduction to Young Justice's version of Bart Allen. He comes back in time from the future in a time machine that "breaks down". He lands in the cave and terrorizes the other members of the team in a hilarious and fast paced scene, then he comes to meet his family at a party they're having (barry allen, wally west, and the rest of the gang) and has an absolutely hilarious time greeting his family and accidentally dropping a few "spoilers". The celebration is cut short by a supervillain attack and bart is shown subtly trying to keep the flash from the fight, dropping hints that something about his story isn't right. the tiny hints that we get throughout the episode are delightful to watch on a second or third viewing when you know exactly what is not right about his story. OKAY NOW FULL BLOWN SPOILERS

near the end of the episode, we see a glimpse of bart's post apocalyptic future, ashes falling from the sky like snow, and him repairing the time machine with the help of the villain that he and the flash stopped earlier in the day. we find out that he has a mission to make sure that the future doesn't end up that way and then we have the hook for a driving plot involving this character that i, frankly, could never ever get enough of. i have written so much fic about this particular character and i've actually rewritten bloodlines twice i think? i keep trying to do a flash and young justice crossover so that i can properly place bart and his boyfriend into the flash timeline.
